Using Generalizability Theory to Investigate the Reliability of Scores Assigned to Students in English Language Examination in Nigeria

The study investigated the reliability of scores assigned to students in English language National Examinations Council (NECO). population consisted all who sat for NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) 2017 Nigeria. A sample 311,138 was selected using proportionate stratified sampling technique. Optical Marks Record (OMR) sheet containing responses examinees instrument study. data analyzed lme4 package R and environment statistical computing, factor analysis Tucker index congruence. psychometric properties were determined by estimating generalizability (g) coefficient, phi (Φ) coefficient construct validity. results indicated g-coefficient be 0.90 Φ as 0.87, which is an indication high scores. result also showed that a decrease number items resulted both g- coefficients D-study. validity 0.99 obtained from affirms credibility items. Hence, it concluded dependable generalizable.
